In the 70 years since HM The Queen was crowned in 1953 life has changed hugely. The country was
still enduring austerity in the wake of World War II; rationing was still in force until 1954. In this
exhibition, Goring Gap Local History Society will be exploring what it was like in the 1950s, both
generally and in Goring and Streatley. The displays will also look at past local celebrations of Royal
events. As well as photos there will be publications from the time to leaf through and a display of
artefacts, including toys and games and domestic items.
Do you remember the Coronation? If so we would be pleased to hear from you. Let us have your
recollections for our archives.
There is a lot going on here over the Jubilee weekend but do find time to drop into the Community
Centre for a trip down Memory Lane. Entry is free and Cleeve by Goring WI will be serving
refreshments.
